What do you think when you imagine a wedding venue in Connecticut? If I had to guess, you probably think of barns, the select banquet hall, and maybe even a few parks. That was not the case for Ben and Sam’s intimate wedding. This was by far the most unique wedding venue that I’ve photographed and one not available to the public. Ben and Sam had a luxurious upscale backyard wedding in Connecticut. The couple married at Sam’s sister and brother in law’s 1870 Italianate house aptly named, Lord Hill. The ceremony took place in a sunken garden that can only be described as straight from Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden.
Ben, Sam, and her family have incredible style that you can see woven through every aspect of the wedding day. From the magnificent artwork displayed throughout the home, to Sam and Ben’s designer wedding attire, and the entire atmosphere of the day.
Currently residing in Philly, Sam and Ben made the trek to CT for their nuptials. Their families live all over the US but made it top priority to make it to this upscale backyard Connecticut wedding. Even a few others joined via Zoom! On the day of their October wedding, Connecticut was feeling the residual affects of Atlantic hurricane season. It was a damp day, but spirits were at an all time high as everyone prepared to celebrate Ben and Sam.
Unlike most traditional wedding days, they started their morning by grabbing breakfast together at a local breakfast joint before heading to Lord Hill to begin getting ready. The said their goodbyes to each other and headed to separate floors.
Even with this being a backyard Connecticut wedding, a first look was a must for Ben and Sam. It’s always an emotional moment and this was no different watching Ben overcome with emotion at the sight of his beautiful bride.
Originally, Ben’s brother was going to officiate the ceremony, but unfortunately due to COVID was unable to attend in person. Because of this, Sam’s sister stepped in to officiate with her special guest. Honorable mention goes to Sam’s niece who could be seen assisting during the ceremony. This was my favorite part! Tears were shed. Laughter abounded. They wrote their own heartfelt vows. It was such an honor to be a witness to.
