Let’s talk about Robby and Laura’s wedding at Sweet Hill Farm in Gales Ferry, CT. Their day was filled with the sweetest sentimental moments as they joined two families together. On this day, not only did they celebrate their marriage, but they remembered the lives of their two of their parents whom are no longer with us. Because of this, what stands out the most was the way they love their friends and family. The interactions I witnessed were beautiful reminders that sometimes you do get to choose your family. Certainly, family isn’t always blood, but the people that are there for you when it counts.
The day began with the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready at a family friend’s house. Walking into the room, excitement was palpable. Hair and makeup were putting their final touches on everyone. This is one of my favorite parts of the day. It goes without saying that when there’s so much good energy mixed with the nerves that come naturally on a wedding day, it’s a really special moment to document. Consider building in the right amount of time in your wedding day timeline for these photos.
While everyone finished getting ready, Robby and Laura had their first look. For me, a first look is a must for a wedding day to let a wedding day breathe. Robby and Laura knew what it would mean for them to have a private moment together and were able spend the rest of the day united rather than apart,
Coupled with Robby and Laura being some of the kindest people, if there’s anything these two love birds know how to do, it’s throw a party with their best friends. This Sweet Hill Farm wedding showed us all what a “framily” aka your chosen family does when it’s time to step up and honor your people!
Most important to note is that Sweet Hill Farm is a full service wedding and event space complete with it’s own catering partnership with Rustic Boutique Catering and Events, and day of coordinator to keep things running smoothly. Therefore, on the day of the wedding, it’s all hands on deck to make your wedding day feel like you’re in a fairy tale! In fact, the way the team transforms the greenhouses into your reception space is seriously mind-blowing. The hanging greenery, crisp white linens, and your own personal touches for decor make for the perfect wedding day space.
There is no shortage of scenic backgrounds throughout the Sweet Hill Farm property that lend to some stunning portraits and a beautiful outdoor ceremony. The best portrait spots are away from the busyness of the reception party which gives you and your new spouse (!!!) time to connect and reflect on everything that’s happened during the day. Robby and Laura definitely took to heart my top tips for rocking a photoshoot! If you’re looking for a laid back, but refined space, check out Sweet Hill Farm.
